Cosmic is a digital social enterprise based on the Heathpark Estate at the East Devon Business Centre in Honiton. We work all over the South West helping people, businesses and communities with their digital skills, websites, digital marketing, training, technical support and videography. Cosmic started as a youth project in Ottery St Mary nearly 20 years ago and we are now recognised as a leading provider of digital skills training and are involved in several projects which span the region which help local people make best use of technology.

We are best known for our goo understanding of the rural area and ability to make IT accessible for everyone by tailoring our service delivery to best suit the individual(s) we are helping or building a website for.

We believe in several core values that are integral to our staff and organisation. Every day we try to be:

  • Inspirational
  • Ethical
  • Friendly
  • Supportive
  • Innovative

This ensures that our customers receive the best product and customer service while we’re assisting them. Often our customers are interested in more than one area of our services which tends to focus around building websites and helping with social media.

Why we care about being dementia friendly

Two years ago at Cosmic we worked on a county-wide project delivering digital skills training to a variety of groups in society. One of these groups was older people and we teamed up with Age UK to deliver sessions at their drop-ins and coffee mornings. A particular part of this we found to be successful was working with dementia sufferers and their carers by using iPads to help them communicate and interact. Where previously carers, friends and families would find it difficult to communicate with dementia sufferers, our work using apps like Google street view helped sufferers to remember key moments from their lives and relive them.

Having had this experience, we then invited a dementia friend to visit the East Devon Business Centre where they delivered a talk enabling others to become dementia friends. Following this we had the opportunity to sit on the Honiton Dementia Action Alliance steering group, a role which Vicky our Operations Manager has taken on.

How do we help Honiton Dementia Action Alliance?

Our relationship with Honiton DAA has grown and grown over the past year and has now evolved to a point where we have become a platinum sponsor, something which we’re extremely proud of. As part of our work so far with Honiton DAA our staff have volunteered their time to develop a strong brand for the group and other graphic design work such as leaflets, posters and powerpoint presentation templates. We have also assisted them in building a website, printing marketing materials and other elements of the organisation which requires digital expertise.

We look forward to working further with HDAA to make a real difference to our town and continue to help dementia sufferers and their friends and families to find life a little easier in Honiton.
