Memory Cafés are being set-up in lots of towns across Devon and the UK. They are informal, social places where you can go for advice and support if you, or someone you know, is experiencing the challenges of memory loss or is newly diagnosed with some form of dementia.
Research has shown that a space to talk and share helps carers understand what is happening, as well as support the person who is experiencing memory challenges. The Memory Café aims to provide this safe, social space for people in this situation.
The Memory Café in Honiton meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month and is run by support volunteers. Members of our local Community Mental Health Care Team also call in to each Memory Café and are available, if needed, to give professional advice.
Between them, these people have a wealth of experience and knowledge about memory problems and dementia. Most importantly, they all share the desire to create a place where people can come and share their concerns with others in a similar situation.
Through this group you can meet and access other professional mental health care support, should you need to.
